Unicaf University Zambia organises successful summit on Women’s Empowerment

Lusaka, Zambia, 10th & 11th March, 2022Unicaf University Zambia organised its inaugural Women’s Summit on the theme of Empowering Women to Make a Change.

Since the African continent is home to the highest percentage of female entrepreneurs globally who contribute significantly to their community’s growth and prosperity, this Women’s Summit was an opportunity to analyse and dissect the progress achieved towards women’s empowerment and gender equality.

Bringing together a panel of women from different sectors of the workplace and attended virtually by eighty participants over the course of two days, lively debates ranged from highlighting the challenges and hurdles women face in their respective roles to under-representation and empowerment in leadership positions.

There was an interactive question and answer session during the summit where participants were able to direct their questions to the panel. Of particular interest was the discussion on some of the attitudes and biassed perspectives from society towards women in leadership roles. It was generally agreed that as soon as certain hurdles could be overcome then women’s empowerment is achievable.

Attendees commended Unicaf University Zambia for hosting the virtual two day event as it is seen as an important platform to exchange views and to further the women’s empowerment agenda.
